OPEN LETTER TO:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR MR. NIGEL DAKIN
THE HON PREMIER MRS. SHARLENE CARTWRIGHT ROBINSON.
THURSDAY O8TH OCTOBER, 2020.
TIME WRITTEN: 6:21PM
MR. GOVERNOR AND HON. PREMIER GOOD EVENING,
I was talking to my family member Mr. Jamal Harvey who is a social worker, parole and probation officer within the government department of the Turks and Caicos Islands. ( ALLOW me to speak the truth, he did not tell me write you this letter ). I did this of my own concern for family and as a concern Turks and Caicos Islander. Jamal Harvey was telling me about how Raymond Grant the prison Deputy Superintendent who is a Jamaican been in the prison working for some 20 years and how he talked to him and treated him while he was at the prison earlier to day in a workshop or seminar teaching and educating the prisoners on Covid 19 (Corona virus ). That man shouted at him in the presence of prisoners and other members of his staff, as well as Mr. Lightboure and Ms.Pinnock who came along with him. He literally put his hands on him pushing and assaulting him by trying to push him through the gate until he was stopped by the police Superintendent Mr. Nigel Gilkes who is in charge of the prison now. He told him to get out, get out, get behind the gate cursing at him. Mr. Raymond Grant is a very very disrespectful and out senior official at the prison. I must admit I wanted to gather up some family members and go by that prison to look for him but if he think he going to be in this country treating Jamal Harvey or any other Turks and Caicos Islander like that he mess with the wrong one this time.
I now see and heard for myself first hand why the prison can’t be no better. It upsets me to the bone knowing foreigners can come in our country and speak to us or treat us any kind of way.
I’m calling for an investigation and for the removal of Mr.. Raymond Grant from the prison immediately let me tell you sometime this is not going to end like that we’re not going to just let that. I call up there and ask to speak to him and he sent a disrespectful message to me saying he don’t want to talk to me and if I have a problem make a formal complaint. That man is well out of his place and you all need to do something with him fast.
Your Excellency and the Hon. Premier if you haven’t received this correspondence by email or hard copy as yet. It’s on it’s way to you and we’re looking for answers and answers quickly.
Since receiving this information I spoke to a senior prison officer who told me Grant is the main problem in that prison among other officers, staff members and prisoners. The prison will never be no better with him there. He said the officers constantly complaining about his behavior, conduct and treatment towards them.
Mrs. Mary Jane Harvey
